![]() I use the orange pedal baby myself with a pod go into a 4x12 loaded with celestions and it sounds amazing.i researched for a month or so before buying the pedal baby. If you're not looking to use it that heavily and it's just something to use in your bedroom or small home studio or something, then that might be a bigger purchase than you're needing to make possibly. If this is something you're going to be using pretty regularly or make your main power amp source for gigging and traveling etc., I think the PowerStage is the best choice of the three. So ultimately I guess it depends on what you're looking to get out of the amp and your budget and needs. But for more frequent use and longer term reliability I think the PowerStage is actually better overall.Ī while back I upgraded from the PS-170 to the 200 watt version, which also has a Presence control and dual speaker outputs and a D.I. The Benton worked fine and is definitely good for a cheap and easy backup to throw in your case. Obviously the biggest difference between these models is the price, and while the PowerStage is the most expensive of the bunch I also felt like it was the most sturdy and reliable of them all. At first I didn't think that'd be something I really cared about or needed, but found myself sometimes requiring some minor EQ tweaking depending on the stage I was on or if I was plugging into a cabinet different than what I normally use, and it was so much easier just tweaking it on the amp itself rather than having to alter any of my presets. I think the Harley Benton and the PowerStage are particularly preferable over the Hotone due to their having the 3 band EQ feature. Out of the other two mentioned I felt like the Hotone had the better clean sound than the Benton. PowerStage doesn't sound sterile to me but is just clean and unaffected enough to run my Ax8 through it and not have it alter my tone negatively. Out of the three, the PowerStage had the cleanest sound and clearest headroom, which I found worked best for me with the modeler I was using (Fractal Ax8). The three amps you mentioned all worked pretty well in their own right and I found all of them plenty loud enough for rehearsing and gigging for the most part. Here's my take on what I've found from them. ![]() ![]() SOOO.I've used all of those pedalboard amps you listed as well as some others like the Pedal Baby and Quilter stuff. The only reason I'm leaning towards the 'Mojo Diamond' is because it's supposed to emulate the Fender Tweed amp and my TT Top Ten speaker is supposed to sound 'Fendery', so perhaps a good match. I'd say clean tones are more important for my little brother. I've ruled out the 'heart attack' (too distorted) and the purple wind (sound unimpressive & boxy to me), so that leaves 3: the 'British Invasion', 'Mojo Diamond' and the 'Thunder Bass' (yeah I know the thunder bass is for bass, but hey, the fender bassman is widely used by guitarists, so.).Īnywhack, all I can go on right now is youtube video reviews and the 'british invasion' & 'mojo diamond' both sound nice to me. Now, to the question at hand, which one to get? there's 5 of the f*ckers. nice, plus bass, middle, treble, headphone / line out, aux in. I mean, a send & return in such a tiny box. ![]() These seem perfect, very cheap, low wattage and tons of cool stuff packed into a tiny package. With this in mind, I went on to find a cheap head, and came across the HoTone Nano Legacy range of tiny amp heads. I guess I see this as a kind of "can I get a cool / decent sound when all the ingredients are cheap" kind of project, in that the Gretsch Special Jet is cheap (although the DeArmond 2000 pickups have a really nice unique sound), the cab speaker is cheap, and the amp head will be cheap. He's not really a dedicated guitar player, so all he really needs is enough volume for bedroom level playing and a decent tone. Anyhoo, he doesn't want to spend much money on a head (around €140 or less), and is not bothered with 2nd hand. I read online somewhere that the Top Ten has a 'Fendery' type tone. Ok, so I'm lending my Gretsch Electromatic Special Jet guitar to my little brother, along with my home-made cabinet which houses a 10" TT Top Ten 30W 8 Ohm speaker.
